Architecture in Texas has a rich history that dates back to before Texas became a state when Missions were built by Dominican, Catholic, Franciscan and Jesuit monks to spread the Christian faith among Native Americans plus help Spain to stake its claim in the new frontier.

Over the last two hundred years Texas architecture has gone through evolutions as the world has changed. It’s seen many architecture periods like Romanesque, contemporary and modern that has given architects over the years an opportunity to use the Texas skyline as their canvas with the new and innovative buildings that they created.

In keeping with the independent spirit that Texas has, architects who live in the state can help make Texas architecture unique by incorporating design elements from the past into new buildings that are being constructed. This step will help cities and towns around Texas to continue having buildings with a look that is uniquely Texan without sacrificing on the modern conveniences of this day and age like energy efficiency and sustainability.

One of the main things that will help to drive the creation of more unique buildings in Texas is for the state government and private corporations to hold more awards and scholarships for the architects or companies that are creating the most innovative and unique buildings in Texas today.

Architects love to compete with one another so if there were more venue’s for an architect’s work to be seen plus opportunity for them to increase their income, it would be a win, win situation for everyone in Texas.
